Angel TV, Directors of two Civil society Groups, Mr Mensah Thomson of Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) and Listowel Kusu Nana Poku of Good Governance Advocacy Group (GGAGG) have been issued with a writ of summons for defamation by Tarkwa Nsuaem MP Hon. George Mireku Duker Duker.
On May 5, 2021, the two Groups held a press conference seeking the appointment of Mireku Duker as Lands and Natural Resources Minister revoked.
According to the groups, Hon. Duker is the one behind most of the illegal mining activities within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality. They also said he has formed a vigilante group to harm the innocent people who will whisper on his ongoing illegal mining activities.
The documents sighted by TarkwaInsider, the Plaintiff is demanding a some of Five Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 500,000.00) as damages for the reckless and malicious publication of the article and damage for his reputations.
The Plaintiff claims, ASEPA and GGAGG are not registered organization at the Registrar Generals Department and also using the non-existing to fraudulently communicate falsehood with the intention to defame the Plaintiff.
The 3rd Defendant (Angel FM/TV) also sued for using it's show called (3 Some news with Kofi Adomah Nwanwani, Appiah Kubi, Daakyehemaa Adwoa Asantewa) publish live at the studios of Angel 102.9 FM to hold a panel discussion in support of the 1st and 2nd Defendants' defamatory statements that Hon. Duker is dishonest as he acts contrary to the policy of his own government when they have no evidence to support what was publish but with the sole intent to lower his reputation in the eyes of the right thinking members of the society.
The Plaintiff stated that, after the press conference and publication of Angel 102.9 FM studios and Facebook page, he received several phone calls and messages from his work place, family, kingmen, friends and business associates who had listened and watched the videos and it's Contents since it's live on air and had been shared and circulated all over WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms.
Hon. George Duker, in his summons, also demanded the Two CSOs and Angel FM/TV to retract and apologize on plaintiff reputation.
