World Blood Donor Day 2020: Tarkwa Municipal Hospital face acute shortage of blood


 The Tarkwa municipal Hospital is reeling under a huge blood shortage since the outbreak of Covid-19 as world blood donor day set to be observe on Sunday.

As on June 12, less than 10 units of blood is left in the hospital. Due to the pandemic the hospital couldn't do their mobile blood donation which was the main source of getting them  blood.

World Blood Donor Day is observed every year on 14th June to raise more awareness about the act of donating blood and celebrate the ones who save countless lives by doing it. The Tarkwa municipal hospital is appealing to churches, organisations, schools, companies and individuals to donate blood to the centre which is struggling to cope with the daily blood requirement.

Currently, the bank needs an average of 180 units (pints) of blood to satisfy the needs of patients of the hospital.

Speaking to BB on Space Fm, the principal and medical laboratory and head of laboratory, Emmanuel Osei, said, there are certificates and incentives to motivates the voluntaries. he added the blood bank is open to the public regardless of the pandemic.
